Palm Sunday Procession – Birmingham, Alabama (16 March 2008)

Palm Sunday Procession – Birmingham, Alabama (16 March 2008):
Honoring the ancient Roman Catholic tradition of carrying blessed palms
in a procession, Catholic faithful processed outside of Blessed
Sacrament church in Birmingham, Alabama, before assisting at Holy Mass
according to the Extraordinary (Tridentine) rite. Fr. Alan Mackey led
the procession and offered Mass. Palm Sunday begins Holy Week
celebrating Our Lord’s triumph as the King of Israel. Holy palms, which
traditionally symbolize victory, compliment the message of the Crucifix:
Jesus’ victory was attained by His Passion and Death. Rev. Fr. Mackey
will offer a sung High Latin Mass on Easter Sunday: much effort has gone
into preparing altar boys and a schola. We are indeed grateful and
blessed, and we look forward to celebrating Christ’s Resurrection in
grand style, fitting to the King of Kings.
Holy Mass, Huntsville, Sunday 9 March 2008

Huntsville Latin Mass Report: February 24
Nearly 200 faithful assisted at the Traditional Latin Mass offered in the beautiful Saint Mary of the Visitation Church in Huntsville, Alabama. The TLM community there is thriving, and Una Voce Northern Alabama is striving to make the Traditional Latin Mass available every Sunday there. On that note, we have collected enough funding to sponsor four priests to travel to Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary (FSSP) to be trained in how to offer the Traditional Mass.
Una Voce Northern Alabama Congratulates Little Anastasia on Her Baptism
Sunday, February 17
We join the parents of our newest Latin-Mass lover, Anastasia, in celebrating her holy baptism. Anastasia was beautifully christened according to the Traditional Rite of Baptism by Fr. Alan Mackey in the lovely Blessed Sacrament Church, Birmingham, Alabama. After her baptism, Anastasia’s parents consecrated her to the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Marian side of the church; Fr. Alan Mackey witnessed. Deo Gratias!

Traditional Latin Mass Report: Huntsville, Alabama (Sunday, February 10, 2008)
Psallite Domino, sancti ejus! Hundreds of faithful assisted at Huntsville’s second Tridentine Mass, offered by Una Voce Northern Alabama chaplain, Fr. Alan Mackey. Holy Mass was celebrated at the beautiful Saint Mary of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Huntsville’s city center. After learning of the overwhelming number of the faithful there attached to this Rite of Mass, His Excellency, Robert J. Baker, wrote to Una Voce that he is “very happy that this Mass has brought such joy to so many devoted Catholics.” We in northern Alabama continue to extend our warmest thanks to Bishop Baker for his support. Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Rite is now a permanent part of the spiritual lives of Roman Catholics in both Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama.

Candlemass, Febrary 3, 2008 (Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
Northern Alabama faithful celebrated Candlemass Sunday with a blessing of candles, a procession, and a final St. Blaise blessing of the throats – very beautiful. Fr. Alan Mackey offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and after Mass he baptized a young man according to the traditional rite. We all welcomed him into the Church with jubilation. There are so many people to thank for all they have done, and continue to do, to help restore the Traditional Latin Mass in the Church. We especially thank those kind priests in the diocese of northern Alabama who support our mission. Una Voce Northern Alabama’s primary goal remains to build a Latin Mass community and to, with God’s help, establish Traditional Latin Rite parish (or several) in Northern Alabama.

Traditional Latin Mass in Huntsville, Alabama (27 January 2008)
Te Deum laudamus: te Dominum confitemur! Nearly four hundred faithful assisted at the first celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Rite) at St. Mary of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Hunstville, Alabama, in over forty years. Rev. Fr. Alan Mackey offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and blessed religious articles according to the traditional ritual. Mr. Jeff Hogan met with aspiring young altar boys, and the faithful gathered for a post-Mass potluck, where Fr. Mackey and Dr. Clark, Una Voce Northern Alabama president, spoke about the state of the Traditional Mass in Alabama and Una Voce’s work in the restoration of the 1962 Missal and rites. Many tearfully expressed their elation and gratitude over the return of the beautiful Tridentine Latin Mass. Thank you Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI and Bishop Baker for supporting this holy form of the Roman Catholic Mass.

Traditional Latin Mass to be Offered at Huntsville, Alabama – Sunday, January 27

For the first time in over forty years the Traditional Latin (Extraordinary Rite) Mass will be offered in the beautiful sanctuary of St. Mary of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Huntsville, Alabama. Rev. Fr. Alan Mackey, the chaplain of Una Voce Northern Alabama, will offer a Low Mass at 4:00 pm, after which he will bless any religious articles (crucifixes, rosaries, scapulars, sacred heart images, and so forth) using the traditional rite. Also following Mass, Mr. Jeff Hogan will lead be a brief organizational meeting in the chapel to begin altar boy training in the diocese. Directly after Holy Mass there will be a potluck gathering in the parish center, during which Dr. Anthony Clark and Fr. Alan Mackey will briefly introduce the mission of Una Voce and provide a report on the status of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Birmingham diocese. There is much to rejoice about nowadays, and we also take this opportunity to celebrate the birth of Anastasia Biddle! We rejoice with David and Carli as they usher into God’s world a beautiful new soul.
Traditional Latin Mass: 4:00 pm
Blessing of Religious Articles: directly after Mass (bring your rosaries and other items)
Altar Boy Organizational Meeting: directly after Mass
Potluck Gathering: after Mass (please bring something!)
Traditional Latin Mass Update: Sunday, January 20

Our most recent Traditional Latin Mass was attended by over 100 people – Deo Gratias! The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was offered again at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Birmingham, Alabama, by Fr. Alan Mackey. Una Voce Northern Alabama has been able, through the generous support of many Alabama faithful, to procure small missals for the Latin (Tridentine) Mass, altar boy training booklets, altar cards, burses, and we are presently collecting funds to send several Alabama priests to Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary for training in the Extraordinary (Tridentine) Rite of the Mass. We also extend our warm gratitude to our new bishop, Robert Baker, for his support and encouragement as we work to promote the 1962 Missal and rituals: we continue to pray for him as he continues his pastoral work in northern Alabama.
